Kenyans are angry after a disturbing CCTV video went viral. The footage shows police officers assaulting young men in Nandi Hills town. The youths were playing pool. They were unarmed. They did not resist.

The incident happened on Sunday night, January 10. It was around 11:51 p.m. More than ten officers stormed a pool hall. They were armed with guns and rungus. The officers ordered the youths to lie on the floor. The young men complied. Despite this, the officers beat them.
The officers demanded identification documents. Some victims were forced to place their IDs in their mouths. The beating lasted several minutes. The officers later left. They ordered the youths to remain on the ground.
Leaders quickly condemned the incident. Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei called the assault criminal. He said the youths committed no offence. He cited Article 244 of the Constitution. The article requires police to respect human rights. It also demands professionalism and integrity.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also reacted. He said playing pool is not a crime. He said youths should not be punished for harmless activities. Owino noted that no law forces citizens to carry IDs at all times. He added that police cannot act as judges and punishers.
The two lawmakers demanded action. They called on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to suspend the officers involved. They also demanded investigations into senior commanders in the area. They urged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to act.
Lawyer Willis Otieno joined the calls. He demanded the public release of the officers’ names. He also called for immediate disciplinary measures.
Public anger continues to grow. Many Kenyans are demanding justice. They say police should protect citizens. They say violence has no place in law enforcement.
