NCCK Issues Strong Warning to Kenyans Against Miracle-Healing Claims by Prophet David Owuor

The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has warned Kenyans against unverified miracle-healing claims by Prophet David Owuor. The church said no preacher has divine authority over healing. True healing, it emphasized, comes only from God.

NCCK leaders told pastors to focus on preaching the gospel. They should not claim exclusive power to cure illnesses. The warning follows a recent crusade where Owuor said he healed serious conditions, including HIV/AIDS, cancer and neurological disorders. Medical professionals, the Ministry of Health and church regulators have raised concerns. They warn that false claims can put lives at risk.

Rev. Elias Otieno, NCCK’s National Chair, highlighted weaknesses in Kenya’s religious oversight. Many independent churches operate without accountability. This allows misleading practices and abuse. The lack of a common regulatory framework causes confusion and disunity. NCCK supports regulation of religious institutions. They insist any law should involve public consultation.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council also cautioned patients. They warned against stopping prescribed medication without consulting licensed doctors. Relying only on spiritual cures can worsen medical conditions.

Despite criticism, Prophet Owuor continues to defend his ministry. He claims dozens of people, including HIV/AIDS patients, have been healed during his crusades. Investigations into his claims have not yet begun.

NCCK’s warning comes amid growing concern over independent churches making extraordinary claims. The council urged Kenyans to exercise caution. They should continue seeking verified medical treatment. People must distinguish between spiritual encouragement and unproven miracle cures.
