The New Zealand frontman sealed a £15million move to the Premier League side on Monday, but the club were quick to release a statement confirming fans who have new shirt with ‘Wood 9’ on the back can return it to the club shop and receive a blank replica shirt.
Wood scored 30 goals for Leeds in their doomed play-off chase last season, as he finished as the Championship’s top scorer.
The Yorkshire side were keen to hold on to him, offering the 25-year-old a new three-year contract extension, but once Wood knew of Burnley’s interest he was desperate to move.
It took three bids from the Clarets, but they would eventually land their man, who replaces Andre Gray in Sean Dyche’s attack.
“My ambition has been to play in the Premier League for years,” he said.
“I’ve had tastes of being in there but I’ve never had the chance to give it a proper bash.”
Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani has vowed to re-invest the funds generated from Wood’s sale back into the squad.
“Supporters can rest assured that monies generated from the sale of Chris Wood will be reinvested into adding to the 12 signings we have made already.”
Leeds hosts Newport County in the League Cup on Tuesday night, as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
