Night Ride Turns Deadly: Family Seeks Justice After Man Allegedly Run Over by Super Metro Bus

A late-night commute ended in tragedy on the Kitengela–Namanga Highway. Joseph Mureithi, 25, is said to have been pushed from a moving Super Metro vehicle before being run over. His family is demanding swift investigations and accountability.

Mureithi had just completed his shift at a petrol station in Athi River. At about 11pm, he boarded a Nairobi-bound bus near Shalom Hospital. Witnesses say the matatu was crowded. They describe confusion and tension inside shortly after departure.

Within minutes, chaos reportedly erupted. Passengers claim Mureithi was forced out of the moving vehicle. He fell onto the road. Some allege the same bus then ran over him before speeding away. He sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A patrol linked to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations responded quickly. Detectives pursued the bus and managed to stop it. The vehicle was later impounded at Athi River Police Station. The driver and conductor are now in custody as investigations continue.

Family members describe Mureithi as hardworking and responsible. He was the firstborn. He supported his mother and younger sibling. Relatives say he had recently secured stable employment to help settle medical bills at home. His death has left the family devastated.

They are questioning how a disagreement, if any, could escalate to such violence. They say no one deserves to be thrown out of a moving vehicle. They want those responsible to face the law.

Super Metro management has expressed regret over the incident. The company says it is reviewing what happened and cooperating with investigators. An autopsy is expected as police gather statements from witnesses.

The tragedy has renewed concerns over safety and discipline in public transport. Overcrowding and crew conduct are once again under scrutiny. For Mureithi’s family, the focus remains clear. They want justice. They want answers. And they want assurance that no other family will endure such pain from a simple ride home.
