Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has dismissed claims of a rift in the Odinga family. She said reports of a fallout are misleading. Political differences and public debates among family members should not be seen as a family feud.

Ruth spoke during an interview on Ramogi TV on Wednesday, January 21. She addressed speculation triggered by her niece Winnie Odinga’s recent political activities. She defended Winnie’s right to speak independently. Ruth said being vocal does not mean creating conflict.
She explained that political disagreements are normal. They are even healthy in families involved in public service. “Debates over politics should not be seen as personal conflicts,” she said. The Odinga family has a long history of active political engagement and differing opinions.
Ruth also questioned the motives behind the alleged feud. She said the media and some commentators exaggerate minor differences to make headlines. She traced the Odinga family lineage to dismiss claims of an “Oginga versus Odinga” divide. She said these stories ignore decades of loyalty and shared struggle.
She emphasized that the family remains united despite public disagreements. Reports of tension between her brother, ODM leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, and his niece Winnie are false. Ruth described the claims as fabricated and misleading. She said they are meant to attract attention, not reflect reality.
Ruth urged the public and media to respect the family’s unity. She said personal relationships must be separated from political debates. “Differing opinions should be welcomed in a democracy,” she added.
In conclusion, Ruth stressed that the Odinga family continues to stand together. Individual voices, including Winnie’s, complement the family’s unity. Political debates reflect engagement, not division.
