Young Kenyans have been handed a new opportunity to join the National Youth Service. The state agency has unveiled a nationwide recruitment exercise set to take place from March 16 to March 21. Activities will begin at 8:00am daily in selected centres across all sub-counties.

In its public notice, the agency stated that the exercise will be conducted throughout the country and invited both men and women to participate. Interested applicants must report to recruitment venues within their home sub-counties.
The programme is open to candidates aged 18 to 24 years. Applicants must be Kenyan citizens and holders of a national identity card. A minimum KCSE mean grade of D (plain) is required. They must carry original academic documents and photocopies for verification. A certificate of good conduct will also be needed.
Successful recruits should be prepared for structured paramilitary training. Medical assessments will be conducted during the selection process and later stages. Those admitted will receive reporting instructions directing them to either the NYS training facility in Naivasha or the paramilitary academy in Gilgil.
The agency noted that orphans who meet all qualifications will receive special consideration upon providing proper documentation such as death certificates. Youth with demonstrated sports ability will have an added edge. Persons living with disabilities are encouraged to apply if they can manage the physical training requirements.
At the same time, NYS announced 750 job openings for cadets and privates in various professional fields. Available roles include engineering, ICT, agriculture, hydrology and supply chain management. These positions require diploma or degree qualifications. Applicants must be between 18 and 28 years old, medically fit and without a criminal record.
The recruitment drive presents more than just service. It offers discipline, technical exposure and a pathway to structured career growth. For many young people, it may open doors to long-term opportunities and national contribution.
