ODM Faces Internal Crisis as Life Members Demand Oburu Odinga’s Resignation

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is facing fresh internal tensions. A group of life members petitioned for the immediate resignation of Oburu Odinga as acting party leader. The petition, dated November 18, 2025, is led by longtime ODM member Rachael Tabitha. She and other signatories accuse Oburu of actions that threaten the party’s core values and stability.

The members say Oburu Odinga has violated the ODM constitution. They claim he has undermined internal democracy and sidelined loyal, long-serving members. They argue these moves go against the party’s principles of transparency, accountability and rule of law. They frame the matter as a fight for the soul and integrity of the party.

The petition calls for an urgent National Delegates Convention (NDC). The life members say only such a forum can solve the governance crisis. They issued a 30-day ultimatum to the National Elections Board (NEB). They warn that failure to act could trigger mass resignations from the party.

The move comes amid reports of rising tensions within the Odinga family over ODM’s leadership. While details remain largely behind closed doors, family dynamics add pressure to the brewing confrontation. Analysts say this could influence the petition’s outcome and affect party unity.

Insiders note the petition highlights a wider struggle over ODM’s direction. The call for a convention underscores life members’ demand for accountability. Observers argue that how the party responds will determine whether ODM can survive this internal crisis.

As the 30-day deadline approaches, all eyes are on the NEB and Oburu Odinga. The coming weeks may prove crucial for ODM. The party’s unity, leadership and commitment to its founding principles will be tested under growing internal pressure.
