Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has warned that President William Ruto’s government could collapse if ODM withdraws its support. He said ODM’s backing has kept the administration stable since the death of Raila Odinga. “Without the party’s numbers in Parliament, Ruto’s presidency”, he warned, “would be at risk.”

Speaking during a public event, Kajwang said ODM’s support follows Raila’s belief in peace and stability. He explained that Raila opposed removing a sitting president through political games. “We will support this government because it needs our support,” Kajwang said. “If we pull out, even in the Senate alone, Ruto might be impeached. The same applies to the National Assembly.”
Kajwang said ODM’s cooperation was not surrender. It was strategy. He said the party wants its regions to benefit from development after years in opposition. He added that ODM would review its position in 2027 based on results.
The senator defended outspoken ODM leaders like Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna. He said their bold voices show the party’s democratic strength. “ODM’s diversity is our power,” he said. “Different opinions keep us alive and strong.”
Kajwang criticised Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga for comments that seemed to celebrate Raila’s death. He said such remarks reveal fear among leaders uncomfortable with development projects going to Luo Nyanza. “We are supporting this government out of principle,” he said. “We want unity and stability as we plan for 2027.”
His statement has stirred new debate about ODM’s influence in Ruto’s government. Many now see the party as a key pillar holding the administration together. Kajwang’s warning was clear and direct – if ODM walks away, Ruto’s presidency could crumble.
