ODM Vows Unity, Plans Memorials and Anniversary Celebrations Following Raila Odinga’s Death

ODM party national chairperson Gladys Wanga has reassured members that the party will remain united and strong despite the passing of their iconic leader Raila Odinga. Speaking at the World Food Event at Kendu Bay Show Ground, Wanga urged party members to stay cohesive and use ODM as a platform to advance political negotiations ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wanga emphasized that ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations, originally planned in Mombasa, will proceed as scheduled without disruption. “Our party will continue moving forward as a team. We will celebrate our 20 years of struggle and achievements while maintaining unity,” she said.

Acknowledging the leadership of Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, who serves as the acting party leader, Wanga called on members to respect the interim leadership and work together to strengthen the party’s foundations.

To honor their late leader, ODM members in Homa Bay County will hold a memorial service at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay Town next Wednesday. The party also plans nationwide memorials to pay tribute to Odinga’s legacy and reaffirm its commitment to unity.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, speaking after a Central Management Committee meeting, said the party will uphold Odinga’s vision for a united nation and continue honoring his commitment to cooperate with the government. He announced that memorial services will take place in Magarini, Kilifi County, on November 2nd and 3rd, before moving to Homa Bay and Migori on November 5th and 6th.

Sifuna added that the 20th anniversary celebrations will proceed from November 14th to 16th, accompanied by activities aimed at consolidating unity and solidarity among party members. “These events are designed to strengthen cohesion and honor the contributions of our late leader,” he said.

With these initiatives, ODM seeks to maintain internal harmony, celebrate its achievements, and ensure Raila Odinga’s legacy continues to inspire members. Party leaders insist that despite the loss of their founder, the political outfit remains a formidable force in Kenya’s political landscape, committed to unity, progress, and preparation for future electoral contests.
