“One by One, Home by Home” – Gachagua Kicks Off Mbeere North Campaign

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua launched a door-to-door campaign in Mbeere North on Monday. He is rallying support for DP candidate Newton Karish ahead of the November 27 by-election. The seat fell vacant after Geoffrey Ruku was appointed Cabinet Secretary of Public Service.

“I am with the villagers every step of the way, one by one, home by home, village by village, in a motif to liberate one nation, Kenya,” Gachagua said on X. He described his morning walk through the constituency as “exhilarating,” combining fitness with grassroots campaigning.

Gachagua visited homes across Mbeere North, engaging residents directly. He said the people cannot be swayed to sell their votes. “For the next nine days, I am on the ground, listening and engaging the people of Mbeere North,” he added.

The campaign has turned into a high-stakes contest. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki backs UDA candidate Leonard Muriuki Wamuthende. Both sides are fighting to consolidate influence in Mt. Kenya. Gachagua vowed to stay in Muminji to protect votes.

Key opposition figures joined the campaign. Former CS Mithika Linturi praised Gachagua’s leadership. DAP–K’s Eugene Wamalwa called Mbeere North the symbolic birthplace of a united opposition. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka backed Karish as the coalition’s undisputed candidate.

Kindiki and allies focused on continuity. They highlighted roads, water, and electricity projects started by Ruku. Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and CS Ruku also campaigned for Wamuthende.

Analysts say the 10-day campaign will test President Ruto’s influence and Gachagua’s political weight. With tensions high, Mbeere North is set for a closely contested by-election.
