“Our Job Is to Get You Out of Government” – Gachagua Vows to Defeat Ruto in 2027

The United Opposition has rejected President William Ruto’s claims that they are driven by greed for power. Speaking on Tuesday, November 11, at the burial of Terry Kariuki, wife of the late J.M. Kariuki, in Gilgil, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua said their goal is clear: remove Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua said opposition meetings are not about sharing power. They are focused on planning how to unseat Ruto. “Those men and one mother are meeting to plan how you will go home. Our job is to get you out of the government; we will plan ourselves later,” he said.

He claimed President Ruto has resorted to false accusations. This, Gachagua said, is because Kalonzo Musyoka is gaining influence in Nyanza. Kalonzo’s recent visit to the late Raila Odinga’s home, he added, has complicated Ruto’s reelection plans.

“The president is confused about his next political move because Raila’s backyard is slowly leaning toward Kalonzo,” Gachagua said. He added that Ruto’s mourning in Bondo was overshadowed by Kalonzo’s grand reception. “I saw Kasongo crying, saying that five men had met to divide the government. He has been confused since he went to Bondo to cry false tears, and Mama Ida’s family said Kalonzo is recognized—now he is confused,” he stated.

Gachagua stressed that the opposition remains united. Their focus is on removing Ruto first. Plans for leadership or power-sharing will come later.

Observers say the remarks show rising tensions ahead of 2027. Kalonzo’s influence in former Raila strongholds may challenge Ruto. The political landscape is becoming sharper and more competitive.

Gachagua concluded that the opposition’s mission is clear. Remove Ruto first, then decide on leadership arrangements.
