“Our Unity Is Our Strength” – ODM Vows to Stand Firm in Broad-Based Government

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has reaffirmed its unity and commitment to the broad – based government. The party dismissed claims of internal divisions, insisting it remains united and focused. This follows a Central Management Committee (CMC) meeting led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

Sifuna said ODM will continue supporting the government until 2027. He noted the partnership is guided by a ten-point agenda built on peace, unity and stability. “We remain committed to the broad – based government for the sake of national harmony,” he stated.

He dismissed rumours of disunity. “ODM is not just a political party; it is a covenant we must renew,” Sifuna said. He urged members to avoid infighting and protect Raila Odinga’s legacy. “We must resist the temptation to scatter or fight over his political inheritance,” he added.

Sifuna assured members that the party will stay united. “We will not be responsible for any breakup or unnecessary political turbulence,” he said. The leaders pledged to continue championing the people’s agenda as Raila always did.

The committee also announced a series of memorial events for the late Raila Odinga. The ceremonies will begin in Magarini, Kilifi County, on November 2nd and 3rd, then move to Homa Bay and Migori on November 5th and 6th.

Sifuna confirmed that ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations will go on as planned from November 14th to 16th. He said the event will include activities to strengthen unity and reaffirm loyalty within the party.

Meanwhile, ODM leaders have cautioned against a rush to fill Raila’s political space. During a meeting in Bondo, they insisted there is no leadership vacuum in the Luo community. Party chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga urged leaders to avoid divisive politics. She warned that scrambling for the “Luo kingpin” title could fracture the unity Raila built.

ODM now hopes to carry forward Raila’s vision – one of unity, peace and shared purpose.
