Passenger Plane Crashes Into Indian Ocean, All 55 Passengers Miraculously Rescued

A StarSky passenger plane crashed into the Indian Ocean shortly after taking off from Mogadishu on Tuesday, February 10. The aircraft carried 55 people. Remarkably, all passengers and crew survived.

The plane, a Fokker 50, experienced a technical problem just minutes after departure from Aden Adde International Airport. The crew immediately requested to return. Aviation officials say the plane touched down but overshot the runway, finally coming to rest in shallow water near Jasiira Beach.

Witnesses described a tense scene. They said the plane flew low, skipped across the water, and settled near the shore. Residents rushed to help as emergency teams arrived on site. The rescue was swift and orderly, preventing injuries.

StarSky spokesman Hassan Mohamed Aden confirmed that everyone on board was safe. He praised the pilot’s quick thinking. “The pilot’s calm decision-making ensured the safety of all passengers and crew. We commend him for handling the situation professionally,” Aden said.

Passengers said the experience was frightening but manageable. The crew remained composed and guided them through safety procedures. Aviation authorities noted that the emergency landing in shallow water required skill and precision, which likely prevented a disaster.

Investigations have begun to determine the cause of the technical failure. Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and StarSky are reviewing flight data, maintenance records, and eyewitness accounts. The focus is on understanding what went wrong and preventing similar incidents in the future.

Experts say the incident highlights the importance of training, quick judgment, and emergency preparedness. Landing a malfunctioning plane in water is extremely difficult, but proper response can save lives. The StarSky pilot’s actions are being praised nationally and internationally.

For now, all passengers and crew are safe and accounted for. Officials continue their investigation, but the successful rescue has already drawn attention online. What could have been a major tragedy ended safely, showcasing the value of skilled aviation personnel and prompt rescue efforts.
