President Ruto: 270,000 KCSE Candidates Secure University Admission as Top Performers Shine in 2025 Exams

A total of 270,000 candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams scored C+ and above. They now qualify for direct university admission. President William Ruto was briefed on the results by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba. He said the figure represents 27 per cent of the 993,000 candidates. Half of the candidates were girls.

The 2025 KCSE exams were held between October 21 and November 21. They included oral and practical assessments before the written theory papers. Performance improved compared to previous years. In addition to the 270,000 securing C+ and above, 1,932 candidates scored grade A. This is the top-performing group nationwide. It is an increase from 1,693 grade A achievers in 2024.

President Ruto praised students for their effort. “We are impressed that out of the 993,000 candidates, 50 per cent of whom were girls, 270,000 attained C+ and above, securing direct entry to university,” he said on X after a briefing at Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County.

The Ministry of Education will release the results today at AIC Chebisas High School in Eldoret. Officials said the announcement will include a full breakdown of grades. This will give insight into national academic trends.

The ministry also reported fewer exam malpractice cases. Only 418 candidates were found guilty in 2025, down from 614 in 2024. Authorities credited improved surveillance and strict enforcement of exam rules.

Overall, the 2025 KCSE results show steady improvement in Kenya’s secondary education. More students now qualify for university. Analysts say this reflects stronger preparation and growing competitiveness. The results highlight the need to support students, teachers and schools to maintain high standards and reduce malpractice in future exams.
