President Ruto Leaves for Angola to Lead AU–EU Summit and Push African Union Reforms

President William Ruto has left Nairobi for Luanda, Angola. He will attend two major events: the 7th African Union-European Union (AU–EU) Summit and the second session of the Ad Hoc Oversight Committee on AU Institutional Reform. As AU Champion for Institutional Reform, he will chair discussions on governance, peace and security.

At the AU–EU Summit, leaders will review 20 years of Africa-Europe cooperation. They will discuss emerging challenges, including shifting geopolitics, funding gaps, and security pressures. Kenya will push for predictable financing for African-led peace operations. It will also strengthen counter-terrorism and border security partnerships. Climate action is another key focus. The summit is a platform to advance Kenya’s priorities while boosting continental unity.

President Ruto will hold bilateral talks with European leaders. He will showcase Kenya’s economic transformation roadmap. Plans include public-private partnership projects such as large-scale irrigation supported by mega dams, clean and industrial energy expansion, and upgrades to roads, airports, ports, and railways. These projects aim to accelerate Kenya’s journey to a first-world economy.

As chair of the AU Institutional Reform Ad Hoc Committee, Ruto will brief heads of state. He will highlight progress in strengthening the Union’s governance, finances and peace and security systems. The reforms aim to streamline decision-making and make the AU more effective in a changing global landscape.

Through these engagements, President Ruto positions Kenya as a continental leader. His actions reinforce the country’s commitment to growth, security, and stronger African cooperation. The sessions also support Agenda 2063, promoting sustainable development and unity across Africa.
