President William Ruto has directed the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to tarmac the road leading to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s home in Tseikuru, Kitui County. The President criticised the road for being dusty and neglected despite Kalonzo’s long years in government.

KeNHA has invited contractors to bid for the project. The work will upgrade the Kandwia–Kyuso Road and Kyuso–Tseikuru Road (Road 852) to bitumen standards. Funding will come from development votes. Contractors must attend a mandatory site visit on January 15, 2026, at Kandwia Shopping Centre.
Bids close on February 5, 2026, at 11:00 am at KeNHA headquarters near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Tender documents are available online or from KeNHA offices for a KSh 1,000 fee.The directive has sparked political debate. Ruto questioned how Kalonzo, who served in previous governments, could claim readiness to lead when the road to his home remained undeveloped.
Kalonzo defended his record, noting that he launched the Kibwezi–Mutomo–Kitui–Mwingi–Tseikuru–Maua Road project in 2011. He claimed it was stalled by the Jubilee administration.
The road upgrade will improve access to Tseikuru. It will also boost transport and local businesses. With bidding open, construction could start soon, turning political promises into real development for the community.
