Ruku Slams ‘One-Term’ Politics, Urges Unity and Focus on Development in Mt Kenya East

Runyenjes, Embu County – Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku dismissed the opposition’s “one-term” narrative. He called it politics fueled by hatred, not development. Speaking in Runyenjes, Ruku said the slogan misleads the public against President William Ruto and allied leaders.

Ruku described the campaign as divisive and full of anger. “The ‘one-term’ politics is not about development. It is the politics of hatred. It is pushed by people who have nothing to show but division,” he said. He accused former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua of orchestrating the rhetoric, ignoring ground realities.

He highlighted regions that previously lacked basic infrastructure. Areas without electricity or tarmacked roads now benefit from government projects. “How do you explain people shouting ‘one term’ in places that never had power or roads before, yet today they enjoy these services? This is not reasoned politics. It is hatred injected into wananchi,” Ruku added.

Ruku defended President Ruto’s leadership. He cited steady economic recovery and expanded infrastructure development. He said the president focuses on ordinary Kenyans and inclusive growth.

He addressed Mt Kenya East politics, calling for unity among leaders. He urged support for Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki, the legitimate political leader of the region. Ruku accused Gachagua of promoting confrontational politics that threaten cohesion. “Mt Kenya does not need politics of insults and hatred. Our future lies in unity, respect, and development-focused leadership,” he said.

Ruku called on leaders and residents to reject divisive narratives. He urged them to judge the government by service delivery and development projects. He dismissed claims of ethnic exclusion. “Any Kenyan can live and do business anywhere. We will not allow a few leaders, led by Rigathi Gachagua, to exploit marginalized communities. We supported them before, and it is time to support our son, Prof Kithure Kindiki,” he added.
