Ruto Hails DRC-Rwanda Peace Accord, Calls for Regional Integration and Economic Growth

President William Ruto has described the signing of the DRC-Rwanda peace agreement as historic. It is a decisive step to end decades of conflict. The war destroyed livelihoods, destabilized the Great Lakes Region, and threatened Africa’s future.

Ruto thanked Presidents Félix Tshisekedi and Paul Kagame for their leadership. He also praised President Donald Trump and the U.S. for their strong support. Trump’s ability to unite stakeholders and focus attention on peace was crucial. “His bold leadership has been instrumental in delivering this breakthrough,” Ruto said.

He emphasized that peace is key for economic growth and regional integration. Africa’s 3% share of global trade shows untapped potential. A stable eastern DRC can unlock resources, harness youth talent, and strengthen the African Continental Free Trade Area. Governments must provide security, predictable rules, and stable markets. Only then can the private sector invest and innovate.

Ruto highlighted Kenya’s progress. Public-private partnerships are building major highways. Renewable energy projects now provide over 92% of the country’s electricity. Kenya is creating a National Infrastructure Fund to attract local and global investment with transparency and sustainability.

He concluded by urging continued international support. Peace and integration can drive innovation, create jobs, and retain wealth in Africa. He also called on President Trump to help address crises in Sudan. “Peace opens the door, integration guides us and private sector dynamism propels us forward,” Ruto said.
