Ruto Summons Mt. Kenya MP’s in bid to Cut Losses ahead of Tour

President William Ruto meets a delegation of Mt. Kenya MP's at Statehouse on Thursday.

President William Ruto on Friday played host to regional leaders from the Mt. Kenya region at Statehouse, Nairobi.

Some of the notable attendees included House Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah, Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge, Nyeri Town MP Duncan Mathenge, and his Laikipia East counterpart Mwangi Kiunjuri. Also in attendance was Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Insider sources confide that the MP’s were ordered to identify ongoing or finished projects that will be available for launch by the president during his upcoming tour to the region. Ruto has been on the spot for making unrealistic promises during his tours, as Kenyans wait to see him follow through with the pledge to purchase the 1-million chapati-minting machine.

As recent as last week, the president completed a similar tour to the Nairobi region, Ruto seeming a little concerned about his dissipating support in the run-up to the 2027 presidential elections. The president is now gearing up for Mount Kenya, making the bold move in an attempt to salvage a few votes for himself before the campaigns.

President Ruto has in the last few months suffered a master stroke from his fallout with Gachagua, leading to several Mt. Kenya leaders withdrawing their support for the government. Ruto’s Thursday meeting lacked serious Mt. Kenya power figures like James Gakuya and Gathoni Wamuchomba who now sing the tune of ex-DP Rigathi Gachagua.

In response, the dissidents were stripped of their ranks in parliament, losing major committee positions, which have now been dedicated to Ruto’s newly-found dalliance with ODM.
