Ruto Urges ODM to Restore Unity, Hints at Possible Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections

President William Ruto has called on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to restore unity ahead of the 2027 elections. He said a strong ODM is crucial for a stable government. Speaking at the fifth Piny Luo Festival in Migori, he hinted at a possible coalition with his United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Ruto promised that ODM would have equal partnership in shaping the next administration.

He noted that Raila Odinga’s passing has exposed divisions within ODM. Factions are pulling in different directions, especially over whether the party should support his re-election bid. “ODM must organise itself and be firm. We need a strong party to plan leadership and progress together. When ODM is strong, UDA will also be strong. Together, we can form a stable government,” Ruto said.

The president paid tribute to Raila Odinga’s legacy. He credited the late leader for shaping his political journey and influencing his rise to the presidency. Ruto said he was once an ODM member and described himself as one of Raila’s first students in politics. He noted that Raila’s vision has guided Kenya’s political landscape for decades and must not be derailed by selfish elements or internal disputes.

Ruto warned against factions attempting to weaken ODM or turn it into an opposition party. He said the party must organise itself to ensure it remains a key player in Kenya’s governance. He assured ODM of continued government support and encouraged members to work together for the country’s development.

The president emphasised collaboration between UDA and ODM. He said combining the two parties’ strengths will help build a strong and effective administration. Ruto stressed that unity is essential not only for elections but also for long-term national progress. He called on leaders to honour Raila’s legacy by putting aside personal ambitions and focusing on service, stability, and growth.

By promoting unity and partnership, Ruto signalled his vision for a cooperative political environment ahead of 2027. He positioned both UDA and ODM as equal partners in shaping Kenya’s future while safeguarding Raila Odinga’s ideals.
