Security Guard Shot Dead During Early-Morning Liquor Store Robbery in Kahawa West; Thieves Steal Goods Worth Sh 2.5 Million

A security guard was killed during an early-morning robbery at a liquor store in Kahawa West, Nairobi. Thieves stole goods worth about KSh 2.5 million. The attack happened around 4 a.m. The criminals broke into the shop, smashed the CCTV, and looted the premises. Witnesses said the robbers acted fast and left before anyone could stop them.

Police from Kasarani have launched an investigation. Store owner Nicholas Mwongera said neighbours alerted him at about 7 a.m. He rushed to report the incident at Kahawa West Police Station. He described the scene as chaotic. He said the security guard tried to stop the intruders but was overpowered and shot. Authorities confirmed that forensic teams are examining the damaged CCTV and collecting clues.

Residents expressed fear over rising crime. They blamed the surge on a long power outage. Kenya Power removed a transformer three weeks ago and has not restored it. Darkness has left the neighbourhood vulnerable. Locals said criminals are taking advantage of the blackout. They warned that homes and businesses are at risk if power is not restored.

Witnesses described a tense morning. “We heard gunshots and shouting. By the time we reacted, the thieves had fled,” one resident said. Others said the blackout has made crimes more aggressive. They called on authorities to act quickly. Police urged anyone with information to come forward. Investigators are checking links to similar robberies nearby.

Residents are calling for urgent action. They want Kenya Power to restore electricity. They also want more police patrols. They warned that without swift action; more violent incidents could happen. Authorities assured the public they are tracking down the culprits. They said steps are underway to improve security and prevent further attacks.
