Speed Does Africa: How IShowSpeed’s Roots, Hustle and Kenya’s Crazy Love Made His Tour Legendary

Popular American streamer Darren Jason Watkins Jr., better known as IShowSpeed, has opened up about the real motivation behind his unforgettable 28-day tour across Africa. The high-energy journey was not just about livestreams and viral moments. It was about identity, roots, and discovering where he truly comes from.

The tour, dubbed Speed Does Africa, took him through more than 20 countries including Angola, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal, Ethiopia, Kenya, Botswana, Namibia, Egypt, and many more. In each place, Speed immersed himself in local culture. He tried traditional foods, danced to local music, joined street crowds, and shared everyday African life with millions of viewers around the world.

Speed said the trip was deeply personal. Growing up, he had limited opportunities to travel. However, learning about world history and ancient civilisations in school sparked his curiosity about different cultures. That curiosity stayed with him as he grew older, pushing him to want to see the world with his own eyes.

His African roots also played a major role. Speed revealed that his mother is from Ghana and his father is from Liberia. This connection gave him a strong emotional pull toward Africa. He said he always felt linked to the continent and knew one day he had to return to what he calls the motherland.

The tour was filled with unforgettable moments. In Morocco, he watched the Africa Cup of Nations final live. In Senegal, he joined fans in joyful street celebrations. Nigeria was especially special because he turned 21 there and also crossed the huge milestone of 50 million YouTube subscribers, all while surrounded by cheering crowds in Lagos.

However, Kenya stood out the most for him. Speed said the country was the highlight of his entire tour. He was amazed when around 30,000 fans showed up to watch him livestream, leaving him in shock at the level of love and support he received.

Online reactions were mixed but powerful. Some debated his idea of returning to the motherland, while others praised him for reconnecting with his roots. Many said he had done more for African tourism than official travel boards. Fans described the journey as meaningful, inspiring, and legendary.

With over 80 countries already visited in his career, Speed has hinted that more global adventures are coming. But Africa, and especially Kenya, will always hold a special place in his heart.
