Sonny Zulu, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Zambia, surprised his long-time driver, Miti, by swapping roles for a day. The gesture was to celebrate Miti’s birthday. Zulu arrived at Miti’s home at 5:45 am. Both Miti and his young son were stunned. The unusual act turned a normal workday into a memorable experience.

Zulu said Miti had served the bank for over 20 years. He had driven three CEOs before Zulu. “I wanted to honour a man who has quietly and faithfully given his best,” Zulu said. He praised Miti’s discipline and dedication. At first, Miti hesitated to sit in the CEO’s usual backseat. After some persuasion, he agreed. Seeing Miti’s son’s amazed reaction left a lasting impression on Zulu. He realised the power of recognising those who serve quietly.
During the role swap, Zulu drove Miti to work, ran errands, and returned him home. The CEO said it was an eye-opening experience. “Excellence looks effortless until you try it yourself,” Zulu said. He struggled to clean the car and drive without mistakes—tasks Miti had done perfectly for years. He also learned that titles are temporary, but respect is earned. When a police officer stopped them, Zulu explained he was driving his boss home. The officer addressed Miti as “Sir,” showing the honour belonged to him.
Miti expressed deep gratitude. He recalled his shock when Zulu entered his home early and insisted he take the CEO’s place. “I never imagined a CEO could be this humble and thoughtful,” Miti said. Zulu said the day reminded him that the greatest people serve quietly, faithfully, and consistently, asking for nothing in return, yet leaving a lasting impact through dedication and humility.
