By Monday morning, authorities confirmed ten deaths. Five victims were left in critical condition. They were rushed to Naivasha Level Five Hospital. Doctors placed them under specialised care. A total of 35 injured people were admitted. Five of them were children.
The crash happened at a dangerous spot. It is the same location where former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo died weeks ago. This has renewed concern over road safety in the area.
Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Wilson Sigei confirmed the incident. He said the bus driver was overtaking at the time. The driver then encountered another vehicle on the road. Police noted that speeding is common along this stretch.
Witnesses gave a different version of events. They said a saloon car joined the highway suddenly from Eagle Petrol Station. The bus driver swerved to avoid it. The bus then hit the shuttle head-on.
Passengers on the bus raised more concerns. Some claimed the driver appeared tired. They said his driving was unstable from Nakuru. Two conductors were asked to keep him company to help him stay alert.
Police have launched investigations. Traffic officers are reviewing all accounts. Authorities urged drivers to slow down. They also called for extra caution on busy highways.
