Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has called for the club to remain focused on rebuilding rather than dwelling on past failures after Cristiano Ronaldo made strong remarks about the team’s current state. United is still recovering from a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, in which they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

Earlier this week, Ronaldo said Amorim could not perform “miracles” at a club he described as “not on a good path.” He insisted the issues went beyond coaching and players. When questioned about those comments, Amorim did not dispute Ronaldo’s influence or knowledge. “He knows and he has a huge impact in everything he said,” Amorim acknowledged.
However, he urged the club to look forward, not backward. “We need to focus on the future,” he said. “We know we made mistakes in the past, but we are changing. Let’s focus on what we are doing now.”
Amorim stressed that Manchester United is undergoing deep internal restructuring. “We are changing the way we work and the standards we expect,” he explained. He believes progress is already visible. “We are improving and becoming stronger. Our mindset is different. We are building step by step.”
He also issued a firm message to supporters and critics:“The past is a lesson, not a prison. We are not going back there.”
United faces Tottenham this weekend. Spurs have beaten them in their last four meetings. However, United enter the match unbeaten in their previous four league fixtures, including a crucial 2-1 victory over champions Liverpool.
Asked how the team has evolved since the Europa League final, Amorim pointed to maturity and confidence. “We are a better team now. We understand the game better. We manage key moments better,” he said. “I expect a different game. We will play better and maybe a little luck will help us win.”
