“There Is No Hurry,” Gachagua Tells Opposition as He Blasts Ruto Over Corruption and the 2027 Power Race

Kenya’s opposition is under pressure to name a 2027 presidential candidate. However, Rigathi Gachagua says rushing would be a mistake. The Democracy for the Citizens Party leader told reporters that patience is part of winning. “There is no hurry. We should not be in a hurry,” he said as he addressed growing calls for an early decision.

Gachagua reminded Kenyans that past coalitions succeeded by waiting. He said early choices can create divisions. Late choices can bring unity. He added that the United Opposition will still agree on one candidate. “We are committed to having a single presidential candidate to face William Ruto,” he stated. Yet he urged the public to allow talks to continue quietly.

While calling for patience, Gachagua launched a sharp attack on President Ruto. He accused his former boss of turning public offices into centers of corruption. “Ruto has enabled corruption,” he said. According to him, bribery now feels normal in government circles.

He also criticized the use of State House. Gachagua claimed it is no longer just a seat of power. “State House has become a scene of crime,” he declared. He added that it has become a place for ruling party activity rather than national leadership.

Parliament also came under fire. Gachagua said lawmakers have followed the bad example set by the executive. He claimed money is now used to shape decisions. “Once the President has shown bribery is a way of life, the Senators have learnt from him,” he said.

The DCP leader went further. He alleged that large sums were handed out during past political battles. He said this has damaged trust in democratic institutions. He also accused both the President and his deputy of moving around the country with cash.

These claims add tension to an already heated political space. With 2027 still far away, the opposition is trying to find its footing. Gachagua believes patience will give them the edge. For him, unity comes before names.
