Police in Kinangop, Nyandarua County are investigating the brutal murder of a Grade Five pupil from St. Christopher Primary School. The boy’s body was found on Thursday morning in a maize farm at Soko Mpya. His death has shocked residents and left the community in mourning.

According to police, the child was killed by unknown attackers. His head had been severed in what appeared to be a violent assault. Near his body, officers found a bag containing maize flour and his clothes. The discovery painted a chilling scene in the quiet rural area.
Residents said the boy had spent the day on the farm with his mother. He went missing later that evening. The family searched for him through the night but could not find him. Early the next morning, neighbors discovered his body in the maize plantation.
Locals have condemned the killing, describing it as cruel and senseless. They called on the police to act quickly and arrest those responsible. Many said the incident has created fear among parents in the area.
Child rights advocate Mary Muigai urged parents to be extra careful during the school holidays. She said children should not be left unattended, especially in isolated areas. “We must all take care of our children,” she said. “Their safety should come first.”
Police have assured residents that investigations have begun. Detectives are following several leads to identify the attackers. However, the motive behind the killing remains unknown. Officers believe the boy may have been targeted by people familiar with the area.
The body was moved to the Naivasha Hospital mortuary for a postmortem. The incident has renewed calls for tighter security and community vigilance. Residents are demanding stronger police patrols and quick action to prevent similar tragedies.
The killing has left Kinangop in shock – a grim reminder of the growing threat against children in rural communities.
