Former President Donald Trump has sparked debate online after criticising Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl 2026 halftime show. He described the performance as “terrible” and said it did not reflect the “greatness of America.”

Bad Bunny made history at the Apple Music Super Bowl LX halftime show. He became the first artist to perform a full show entirely in Spanish. The 13-minute performance celebrated Latin culture and included surprise appearances from Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Pedro Pascal, Cardi B, Jessica Alba, and Karol G.
The show opened with his 2022 hit Me Pregunto. He followed with Yo Perreo Sola and EOO. He closed with the title track from his latest album, DtMF. Lady Gaga joined him for a salsa-infused rendition of Die With a Smile. Ricky Martin performed Lo Que Pasó a Hawaii.
The performance included political and social messages. During El Apagón (The Blackout), dancers dangled from power lines, referencing Puerto Rico’s ongoing power grid issues. The finale featured flagbearers from countries across the Americas. Bad Bunny ended with a rare English phrase: “God bless America,” signalling a broader message of unity.
Trump’s criticism focused on language and dancing. He wrote, “Nobody understands a word that this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children watching throughout the USA and from all over the world.” He added that the show lacked inspiration and did not meet the standards of “success, creativity, or excellence” he associates with American entertainment.
Fans and critics quickly responded online. Many praised the performance for its energy, cultural celebration, and star-studded lineup. Others said Trump’s comments missed the point of the show. Social media lit up with clips, memes, and tributes to Bad Bunny’s historic performance.
The halftime show highlighted diversity in entertainment. It showed the Super Bowl stage can carry social, cultural, and political messages. Millions celebrated the music and unity, despite Trump’s disapproval.
Bad Bunny has not publicly responded to Trump. But his performance made a lasting impact. In just 13 minutes, he broke records, celebrated Latin culture, and sparked a worldwide conversation about music, culture, and politics.
