The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary night-time closure on a key section of Uhuru Highway in Nairobi. The works are aimed at improving road safety and ensuring smoother traffic flow during the day.

The affected stretch lies between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and the Westlands Roundabout. The closure will take effect every night from Friday, February 6, 2026, to Friday, February 13, 2026, between 10 pm and 5 am.

KeNHA said the maintenance is part of routine works along this busy corridor. Uhuru Highway links the city centre to Westlands and major outbound routes, making it one of Nairobi’s most important roads. Repairs at night allow work to proceed quickly without disrupting daytime traffic.

Motorists travelling towards Nakuru along Uhuru Highway and Chiromo Road are advised to use alternative routes. Options include Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, Westlands Ring Road, and the Nairobi Expressway. Those heading towards Mombasa can divert via Parklands Ring Road, Ojijo Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, University Way, or the Nairobi Expressway.

KeNHA emphasized that drivers should plan ahead and allow extra travel time. Police officers and traffic marshals will be deployed along the affected routes to guide motorists. Cooperation is crucial for safety and smooth operations during the closure.

The maintenance works include routine road repairs, resurfacing, and safety inspections. Officials said these improvements will enhance travel along the corridor, reduce potholes, and minimize accidents.

Normal traffic operations on the affected section will resume each morning after the night’s work. KeNHA encouraged commuters to stay updated through official advisories while the platform is being monitored for progress.

Night-time maintenance ensures that Nairobi’s key highways remain in good condition while minimizing disruption for daily commuters. The authority said these works are part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure, provide safer travel, and make commuting more efficient for both public and private transport users.
