Ukraine Offers Drone Defense Expertise as Global Interest Rises Amid Middle East Threats

Ukraine is gaining international attention for its expertise in defending against drone attacks. Eleven countries have reportedly reached out to Kyiv, seeking guidance on how to counter Iranian-style drones, which have been launched in retaliation for US and Israeli strikes across the Middle East.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday that these requests come from nations in Europe, the United States, and countries neighboring Iran. “As of now, there are 11 requests from countries neighbouring Iran, European states, and the US. There is clear interest in Ukraine’s experience in protecting lives, relevant interceptors, electronic warfare systems, and training,” he said. The specific countries requesting help were not disclosed.

Ukraine’s expertise comes from months of defending against nightly Russian drone attacks. The Ukrainian military reports intercepting more than 80 percent of incoming drones, often hundreds per night. Defense measures include cheap drone interceptors, electronic jamming tools, anti-aircraft guns, fighter jets, and helicopters, all working together to protect cities and infrastructure.

Some Ukrainian drone specialists are reportedly heading to the Middle East this week to advise local forces. Zelensky has also suggested swapping Ukraine’s drone interceptors – which can shoot down incoming drones mid-air for high-cost air defense missiles, which Kyiv has in limited supply.

Analysts say Ukraine’s approach is practical and cost-efficient. Instead of relying solely on expensive missile systems, Kyiv uses layered strategies combining drones, electronic warfare and flexible air defense tactics to respond to threats.

This international interest highlights the growing global challenge posed by unmanned aerial threats. Countries facing similar attacks are keen to learn from Ukraine’s experience to protect civilians and critical infrastructure.
