Former Harambee Stars team manager Willis Waliaula believes Nairobi United have what it takes to progress deep into the CAF Confederation Cup after their stunning 2-0 victory over Tunisian heavyweights Etoile Sportif du Sahel in the first leg.
Waliaula hailed the team’s impressive cohesion and mental strength, saying their progress is built on unity, motivation, and trust between the players and the technical bench. According to him, the togetherness within the camp has been the driving force behind their strong performances this season.
“One thing that stands out with Nairobi United is teamwork,” Waliaula said. “The motivation from the management and coaching staff has been key. The players believe in the system, and that belief is showing on the pitch.”
The former Tusker FC team manager also praised head coach Nickolas Muyoti and his assistant Salim Ali for creating an environment that allows players to express themselves while maintaining tactical discipline. “Muyoti and Salim have excellent chemistry,” he noted. “They complement each other well, and that balance has played a big part in the team’s consistency. It’s the kind of leadership that breeds results.”
However, Waliaula urged the Kenyan representatives not to get carried away by their first-leg win, warning that Etoile du Sahel remain a dangerous opponent, especially at home. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and discipline during the return leg in Tunisia.
“They must approach the game with respect, but not fear,” he advised. “Etoile have experience at this level and are very strong at home. If Nairobi United can stay organized and tactically alert, they have a great chance of advancing.”
With confidence running high and momentum on their side, Nairobi United are now just one step away from achieving a historic milestone. A positive result in Tunisia would not only secure their place in the next round but also announce them as one of Kenya’s emerging football powerhouses on the continental stage.
