Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu has confirmed he will defend his seat in the 2026 elections. He dismissed speculation that former SG Wilson Sossion might challenge him.

Oyuu met representatives from 25 KNUT branches across the Rift Valley. He highlighted his record of stability, unity and progress. He said his leadership has strengthened the union and improved teachers’ welfare.
Oyuu stressed that the union’s achievements are a collective effort. “The union has done this… we have done this… and we have succeeded together,” he said. He praised the national office for being calm, strategic and deliberate.
Oyuu reminded members that leadership is never a solo effort. Personal praise must reflect the team. He added that doubting members’ support would be “a culture of doubting the obvious.”
He said he and his team are fully prepared for any contest. “We are more than ready, in fact we are ready like yesterday… Every Tom, Dick, and Harry who would wish to come to the arena, come baby come, we shall face it… Come for your immediate downfall,” Oyuu declared.
The Rift Valley branches endorsed him unanimously. They praised his calm negotiations with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). West Pokot Executive Secretary Etary Sembelio Martin confirmed the region’s full support. Oyuu warned against anything that could disrupt peace. He urged teachers to re-elect the current leadership.
