“We Just Wanted Our Daughter Back Alive”: Shock in Kakamega as Missing Woman Found in Septic Tank

A quiet neighborhood in Kakamega has been thrown into mourning after the body of a 20-year-old woman, who had gone missing for days, was discovered inside a septic tank. The tragic discovery of Wendy Edaa’s body at Jua Kali Phase 2 in Shieywe Ward has sparked anger, grief and calls for swift justice.

According to police reports, Wendy vanished on Friday under unclear circumstances. Her family and neighbors launched a frantic search, hoping to find her alive. However, on Sunday afternoon, their search ended in heartbreak when her body was found hidden inside a septic tank behind a neighbor’s house.

Her mother, Lilian Lichina, recounted the painful moment they received the news. “We searched everywhere, but we couldn’t find her. Then her body was discovered in a septic tank. We believe she was killed before being dumped,” she said, visibly shaken. Wendy’s father, Levi Mate, shared the same belief and urged police to move swiftly. “We just want justice for our daughter,” he added.

Residents are now demanding accountability. Led by local elder Geoffrey Mushira, they accused the property owner of negligence for leaving the tank open and exposed. “This death could have been avoided. Someone must be held responsible,” Mushira said as residents gathered in protest.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation to establish what led to the young woman’s death. Detectives have sealed off the scene and are questioning neighbors as forensic experts collect evidence. Authorities say no arrests have been made yet but assured the public that a thorough probe is underway.

Kakamega County police confirmed that Wendy’s body has been moved to the Kakamega Referral Hospital mortuary for an autopsy. They also urged calm as investigations continue.

The shocking incident has reignited fears over the safety of women in residential areas. Locals are calling for tighter security, better lighting and regular inspection of unsafe properties.
