“We Need to Build a New Airport”; Ruto Defends Plan, Urges Focus on Progress

President William Ruto has called on Kenyans to back the construction of a new airport, emphasizing that progress should outweigh politics. In a bold and direct statement, he dismissed claims suggesting he intends to sell Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). “Where would I even take an airport? These claims are baseless,” Ruto said, clapping back at critics.

The president revealed that the new project will receive support from Qatar. He cited a similar framework used in Rwanda for a Qatari-backed airport. This announcement comes months after Kenyans rejected the controversial Adani deal, which many criticized for lack of transparency. Ruto stressed that international partnerships will ensure the project is credible and benefits the nation.

Ruto confirmed that he has already discussed plans with the International Monetary Investment Fund (IMIF). “Today, I’ve already spoken with IMIF, and we’ve agreed on what we’re going to do with our airport,” he said. The president highlighted that the new airport will boost regional connectivity, enhance trade, and create jobs. He stressed that infrastructure development is essential for Kenya’s long-term growth.

“Critics who questioned the project”, Ruto said, “are overlooking its potential benefits.” He urged citizens to focus on outcomes rather than political disputes. “With Qatar’s backing,” he added, “the initiative will mirror successful international projects and demonstrate Kenya’s capacity to implement large-scale infrastructure efficiently.”

Observers note that the project aligns with the government’s broader agenda to modernize transport infrastructure and strengthen economic competitiveness. By pushing the initiative forward, Ruto aims to position Kenya as a regional hub for aviation, trade and tourism. His remarks underscore a firm commitment to delivering results despite political skepticism.

The president concluded by appealing to all Kenyans to support projects that drive development. He emphasized that such investments are crucial for the country’s future, enhance global connectivity and create opportunities for citizens. Ruto’s message reinforces the importance of prioritizing progress over politics to secure a stronger, more connected Kenya.
