“We Will Not Be Intimidated” – ODM Condemns Kasipul Violence Ahead of By-Election

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has condemned rising violence in Kasipul Constituency. The November 27 by-election is drawing near, and tensions are high. ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga said attacks on party activities threaten a free and fair vote. She called on security agencies and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to act fast and restore order.

The latest violence occurred during a voter engagement meeting led by ODM candidate Boyd Were. According to Wanga, individuals linked to a rival campaign stormed the venue. They destroyed property and endangered lives.

Several people were injured. Fear and tension quickly spread in the area. “This is not an isolated event,” Wanga said. She recalled an attack during a Women Empowerment Programme in Sikri, where vehicles belonging to ODM supporters were vandalized and women were harassed.

Wanga stressed that ODM will not be intimidated by lawlessness. “The people of Kasipul deserve to choose their leader without fear, intimidation, or coercion,” she said. The party urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute all perpetrators and financiers of the attacks. ODM also called on the IEBC to ensure a level playing field and safeguard the electoral process.

The party appealed to all candidates and supporters to stay calm. They were warned against inflammatory remarks or actions that could worsen tensions. Rival camps have been exchanging accusations, raising the risk of further unrest.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrance Koilem confirmed investigations are ongoing. Officers are on the ground. They aim to catch the culprits and restore calm before the by-election.

As the vote approaches, Kasipul faces intense scrutiny. Authorities and leaders must ensure both security and fairness. Residents hope to vote freely, without fear. The coming weeks will test how effectively peace can be maintained amid high political rivalry. The eyes of the region are watching every move.
