Western Bulls RFC Appeals for Urgent Financial Support Ahead of New KRU Season

Western Bulls RFC, the Kakamega-based rugby club affectionately known as “Echulusi,” has launched an urgent appeal for financial assistance as the 2025/26 Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship season approaches. The club revealed that its preparations for the campaign, set to begin on November 16, have been stalled due to severe funding challenges, raising fears that they may miss the new season entirely.

In a statement, the club acknowledged that they have not resumed training since competing in the Dala 7s tournament, attributing the pause to financial constraints. “As we gear up for the upcoming 2025/26 KRU Championship, Western Bulls RFC faces a difficult financial situation that has significantly affected our preparations,” the club said, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.

The management is calling on fans, alumni, and the wider rugby community to step in and support the team. “We are appealing to our fans, well-wishers, alumni and the rugby fraternity to help us financially as we strive to honor our fixtures this season. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help us get back on the pitch and continue nurturing rugby talent in the Western region,” the statement added.

Supporters willing to assist are encouraged to make donations via the club’s M-Pesa paybill number 522522, account number 1131768175. The club stressed that timely support is crucial to avoid missing the season’s opening matches and to maintain the momentum of developing young players.

Western Bulls RFC has a rich legacy of producing top-tier rugby talent, with several players progressing to Kenya Cup sides and even representing the national team. However, the club’s current financial strain threatens to derail this tradition unless immediate support is received.

The club’s management has expressed optimism that with the backing of the community, they can overcome the financial hurdles and return to training in full force. Fans and well-wishers are urged to rally behind Echulusi and ensure the team continues its proud history of fostering rugby talent in Western Kenya.
