The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Kenya is seeking companies for a major project on Lake Turkana. The initiative aims to improve fish landing operations and boost local economic activities. WFP is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from qualified Kenyan and regional firms. The submission deadline is January 9, 2026, at 5:00 pm.

The project will provide a complete floating jetty solution. It includes a durable jetty, a gangway, solar-powered lighting, and integrated cold storage. The system will support fishing communities affected by climate change and rising water levels. The infrastructure is designed to be corrosion-resistant, environmentally friendly, and adaptable to fluctuating lake levels.
Selected companies will handle the full project lifecycle. They will design, supply, install, and commission the jetty. The scope also covers maintenance and after-sales support. Contractors must prepare Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) reports and comply with NEMA regulations.
Eligible firms must show proven experience in marine infrastructure. They should have completed at least one floating jetty project in the last five years. Companies must hold valid business registration, tax compliance, and audited financial statements for the past two years. Registration with the National Construction Authority (NCA) is required where applicable. WFP will review technical capacity, health and safety policies, and commitment to local employment and capacity building.
Interested companies must fill out the WFP online questionnaire. All supporting documents, including company profiles, technical proposals, financial records, and compliance certificates, should be submitted via email to wfpKenya.procurement@wfp.org. The subject line must read: “Response to EOI ref. No WFPKEN25003.”
The Lake Turkana floating jetty project is expected to modernize fish landing operations. It will enhance livelihoods and provide sustainable solutions for communities facing environmental challenges. WFP aims to strengthen economic resilience and support development in northern Kenya.
