Wiper Leaders Accuse President Ruto of Marginalising Kamba Community

Wiper Patriotic Front leaders have strongly criticised President William Ruto. They accuse him of undermining the Kamba community and sidelining their political voice. The remarks came during the unveiling of Anthony Kisoi as Wiper’s candidate for the upcoming Mumbuni North ward by-election. The party framed the contest as a test for Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2027 presidential ambitions.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti said the Kamba community has endured disrespect from the Kenya Kwanza government for too long. She insisted the community is ready to defend its dignity politically. “Kalonzo deserves respect. Some people take his calmness and diplomacy for granted. Because he avoids confrontation, they disrespect him,” Wavinya said. She warned that the community would no longer tolerate political belittling.

Former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka accused President Ruto of misleading Ukambani residents with empty promises. He said the president has not conducted a single development-focused tour in the region. Meanwhile, he has visited other counties multiple times. Munyaka also accused the government of fostering corruption and discrimination. He said Kalonzo’s leadership would end graft.

Munyaka also condemned remarks made by President Ruto during Mashujaa Day in Kitui. He said the phrase “vomwe na vetwe” insulted the Kamba people. “You cannot label Kambas as ‘vomwe and vetwe.’ We are God-fearing people who do not steal. President, you have led for over three years, yet Ukambani has seen no progress. Stop disrespecting us and Kalonzo,” he said.

Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa said criticism of the DCP party was a diversion. He said it aimed to distract from the president’s recent signing of controversial cybercrime and privatisation laws and the tragic deaths of youths at Kasarani.

Wiper leaders said the Mumbuni North by-election, set for October 27, is a test of support for Kalonzo ahead of 2027. They urged residents to back Kisoi. The vote is framed as a show of confidence in Wiper’s leadership. Kilome MP Thaddeus Nzambia backed the call. He urged the community to unite behind the candidate.

The by-election sets the stage for a high-stakes political battle. Tensions between Kenya Kwanza and the Wiper Patriotic Front over the Kamba community’s representation are rising.
