Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has lost his security detail. Officers stationed at his home and the guards accompanying him were withdrawn at midnight on Wednesday, he confirmed to Citizen Digital. The move comes days after a violent attack against him and raises serious concerns about his safety.

The attack occurred on Saturday, November 22, at Chwele Ward in Kabuchai, Bungoma County. Armed men also targeted the home of Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga. Viral videos showed Natembeya’s vehicles destroyed. Eyewitnesses said he narrowly escaped gunshots as the attackers stormed the rally.
Natembeya directly blamed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula for the violence. Speaking while inspecting Kalasinga’s damaged home, he said, “Your leader in the National Assembly is the one sending goons to destroy the home of a member of Parliament simply because they hold a different political opinion.” He described the attacks as primitive. He also condemned the use of government resources to settle political scores.
The incident has heightened tension in the county. Residents fear rising political violence. Analysts warn such attacks threaten democracy. Natembeya’s security withdrawal adds to concern. Observers say it leaves him vulnerable while raising questions about the protection of elected leaders in volatile areas.
Political experts call the attack a dangerous precedent. They say using armed groups to intimidate opponents’ fuels instability. Citizens are demanding an impartial investigation. They want those responsible held accountable. They also want stronger protection for politicians.
Despite the threats, Natembeya vowed to continue serving his people. He called on national and county authorities to act quickly. He stressed that political disputes must be solved through dialogue, not violence. He urged swift measures to ensure elected leaders can work without fear of attacks or intimidation.
