Gospel Icon Ron Kenoly Dies at 81, Leaving Behind a Global Legacy of Worship, Inspiration, and Impact Across Generations

Renowned gospel singer and worship leader Ron Kenoly has passed away at the age of 81. The American icon died on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. His music director, Bruno Miranda, confirmed the news on Kenoly’s official Instagram account.

“This morning, Feb. 3, 2026, we said goodbye to Dr. Ron Kenoly,” Miranda wrote.

Just two days earlier, Kenoly reflected on his ministry, expressing gratitude for a career spanning more than four decades. “I am 81 and in my 48th year of ministry. These are some of those who helped me reach over 123 nations around the world over the past 20 years,” he wrote.

Tributes quickly poured in from around the world. Miranda described Kenoly as a man deeply committed to his calling. “For over 20 years, I had the honour of walking alongside him in ministry; not just as his music director, but as a son, a student, and a witness to a life marked by faithfulness,” he said.

He emphasized that Kenoly never saw himself as an entertainer, but as a worship leader. “A worship leader’s calling is not to perform songs, but to lead people into true worship in the presence of a King, the King of Kings, Jesus Christ,” Miranda added.

Nigerian bishop Wale Oke also mourned Kenoly, calling him “a man of humility, a vessel of grace, and a true worshipper who gave his life to the glory of God.” He added, “Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort knowing a life spent in faithful devotion is never in vain. His Spirit-filled songs, legacy, and impact will continue to inspire generations.”

Kenoly was best known for songs like Jesus Is Alive, Sing Out, and My God Is Able. His 1992 album Lift Him Up sold over 500,000 copies and earned Gold certification. He began singing in his hometown Baptist church in Coffeyville, Kansas, and after serving in the military, he fully committed to worship ministry in 1985.

Until his passing, Kenoly remained active worldwide. He mentored pastors, worship leaders, and musicians. He taught at U.S. universities and ministered in more than 120 nations. His influence on global worship and contemporary gospel music leaves an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire faith across generations.
