“Stop Dividing the Mountain,” CS Ruku Blasts Gachagua in Strong Message to Mt Kenya Leaders

Public Service and Human Capital Development Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has issued a sharp rebuke to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of stirring unnecessary division in Mt Kenya. Ruku said recent comments made by Gachagua questioning the integrity of leaders from the region were misplaced and unfair. He spoke during an education and community empowerment outreach in Mbeere North, where he met residents in Cieria, Kirie, Kabubua and Kanyuambora.

Ruku stated that leaders from Mt Kenya have earned their positions through service and sacrifice. He insisted that they have demonstrated loyalty to their people and have worked consistently to improve livelihoods. According to him, labeling them as lacking credibility only fans division and distracts the region from key development priorities.

He accused Gachagua of inconsistency, saying the former DP often appears with some of the same leaders he publicly criticizes. Ruku argued that it is hypocritical to condemn leaders one still cooperates with. He said no single politician should position themselves as the sole guardian of the region’s interests.

Ruku emphasized that the region currently recognizes Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as its senior-most leader. He praised Kindiki as intelligent, humble and respected both nationally and internationally. Ruku urged residents to support leadership that encourages unity, stability and growth rather than rivalry.

He called on the Mt Kenya community to stay focused on development. He highlighted the importance of education, youth empowerment and economic progress. He warned that internal political fights weaken the region’s ability to negotiate and benefit nationally.

Ruku made these remarks as he campaigned through Muminji and Evurore wards before addressing a large rally at Kanyuambora Stadium. The event took place near the home of former Senator Lenny Kivuti and within the political backyard of former Speaker Justin Muturi, both of whom support the Opposition candidate in the upcoming Mbeere North by-election.

However, many residents at the rally rejected the Opposition candidate. They recalled earlier calls by some Opposition leaders to abolish NG-CDF bursaries. They declared they will support the UDA candidate, Leonard Wamuthende, in the November 27 vote.

Ruku expressed confidence that the people will choose unity and development at the ballot. He said voters understand who stands with them and who aims to divide the mountain.
