Speaking on the Mic Check Podcast, former manager of the boy group Sailors Gang, Mwalimu Rachel exposed that Sailors Gang had gotten the short end of the stick with particular song collaborations they did.
The radio presenter shared that she found out that Sailors had received no money from their song collaboration with Kenyan rap artist, Octopizzo. She went on to point out that it was not necessarily Octopizzo’s fault.
According to Mwalimu Rachel, there was a lack of proper communication and follow-up when it came to the contracts. She further explained that there was no clear communication on who gets what from the song collaboration.
“I came across the song they did with Octo just like everyone else, the boys went, recorded a song, shot a video, but there were no split sheets, no agreements.”
Mwalimu Rachel went on to add that something similar happened when Sailors Gang did a song collaboration with dancehall artist KRG Don. However, this time around, Sailors got compensated with beverages and food instead of being paid.
Mwalimu Rachel no longer manages the boy group after a public and dramatic fallout that they had. According to Mwalimu Rachel, one of the boys, Peter Miracle Baby was approached and offered a deal by a recording label behind her back.
“A record label went behind our backs to one of the members, Peter Miracle Baby, they lied to him with wild dreams, stipends, and allowances which unfortunately Peter fell for and signed the deal.”
She then went on to add that the boy group signed the deal without informing her, undermining her authority as their manager. She claims that they were enticed by phony and unrealistic deals from the recording label.
