From Viral Fame to Lifeline Support: Sonko Steps In for Struggling ‘Kwa Mbae’ Boy’s Family in Emotional Turnaround

What began as a simple viral video has turned into a deeply emotional story after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko stepped in to support the struggling family of the “Kwa Mbae” boy, Musa Kihara. The family’s situation moved from online fame to real-life hardship, drawing public sympathy and support.

Musa became widely known after a video showed him confidently directing a boda boda rider using a nearby shop landmark called “Kwa Mbae.” The clip spread quickly online, attracting attention and visitors who wanted to meet the boy behind the viral moment.

However, the attention revealed a painful reality. Musa’s older brother, Lewis Baraka, is battling throat cancer and is currently receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital. The family has been struggling to manage medical expenses and daily needs.

Sonko met the family alongside supporters and offered financial help to ease their burden. During the visit, he provided KSh 100,000 for Lewis’s treatment and KSh 20,000 for Musa’s support. His intervention brought relief to the struggling household.

Speaking after the meeting, Sonko emphasised that the situation was bigger than social media trends. “Beyond the viral videos, this family is fighting a brave battle,” he said, highlighting the seriousness of Lewis’s condition and the need for continued support.

He also called for unity and compassion from the public, urging Kenyans to continue supporting the family through prayers and assistance. “Together, we can find a solution for Lewis. Let’s keep this family in our prayers,” he added.

The former governor also indicated plans to support the family further, including helping them secure better living conditions in the future. This promise has given the family renewed hope during a difficult time.
