According to Nation Media In a statement sent to newsrooms on Friday, the Sports Stadia Management Board said the stadium will be known as the Safaricom Stadium Kasarani – Home of Heroes while the gymnasium will be called the Safaricom Indoor Arena in a deal reportedly worth more than Sh 55m.
As part of the contract, Safaricom will refurbish the dressing rooms, a selection of corporate suites, signage and carry out other improvements to the facilities but maintenance and management of the stadium remains with the SSMB.
“Safaricom becomes the first local corporate to be awarded the Naming and Branding Rights for the stadium. This is in line with our strategic direction to work with corporates in order to improve and develop sports facilities across the country,” said Rakki Asman, Public Relations Officer of the SSMB in the statement.
The entry of Safaricom is expected to encourage interest from other corporates in similar partnerships with the SSMB.
