Kenya Thrash Bermuda In Dubai

Kenya national cricket team lead veteran Steve Tikolo managed to beat Bermuda cricket team in the ICC Twenty20 qualifiers held in Dubai yesterday November 21st.

Kenya’s former captain and prolific batsman, Steve Tikolo, knocked unbeaten half a ton that steered Kenya to a seven wickets victory against Bermuda in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup qualifiers at the ICC Academy Ground two on Thursday.

The match was delayed by light rainfall and was reduced to 18 overs. Kenya won the toss and put Bermuda in to bat. Batting first, Bermuda set a target of 125 runs with David Hemp’s contribution of 30 not out, the best score for the side.

Allan Douglas (22), Dion Stovell (16) and Kamau Leverock (12 not out) were the other batsmen who got meaningful runs for Bermuda.

Shem Ngoche (2/6) and Tikolo (2/33) were Kenya’s main wicket takers. Nehemiah  Odhiambo (1/14), Ragheb Aga (1/14) and Hiren Varaiya (1/34) were the other wicket takers.

In reply Kenya reached the target, 125 with seven wickets and 40 balls in hand. Tikolo was Kenya’s highest runs getter with unbeaten 54 that came off 30 deliveries with six boundaries and a six.

He shared a third wicket partnership of 56 with Collins Obuya, who hit a quick 31 that came off 18 balls with three four and two sixes. The partnership was broken when Jacobi Robinson had Obuya caught by Allan Douglas.

Kenya had started their innings on a sour note when opening batsman, Alex Obanda was caught by Tre Manders off the bowling of Malachi Jones for a duck with a score of a single run showing on the scoreboard.

Nehemiah Odhiambo (28) joined Tikolo at the crease and the duo put on a second wicket stand of 57, that was broken when Odhiambo was clean bowled by Derreck Brangman.

Friday is a rest day for Kenya before they take on the Netherlands on Saturday. The Netherlands currently top Group B with 8 points, two points ahead of Kenya who are third on the table behind Afghanistan who also have 8 points, but with an inferior net run rate to the Netherlands.
