The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has raised the alarm over a surge in fraudulent job schemes targeting unsuspecting applicants. Scammers are circulating fake job offer letters and demanding payments from candidates.

In a public notice posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, @Kenya_Ports, KPA urged job seekers to be cautious. “It has come to our attention that fraudsters are distributing counterfeit documents purportedly from the Authority to extort money from unsuspecting job seekers,” the notice read.
The authority clarified that its ongoing recruitment process is not yet complete. Successful candidates will only be contacted through official KPA communication channels after the process is finalized. Job seekers are advised to ignore any messages from unofficial sources.
KPA also stressed that it does not charge any fees during recruitment. This includes application submissions, interviews, and document processing. Requests for payments, whether described as facilitation or processing fees, are fraudulent and should be disregarded.
Applicants have been warned to stay alert to common scam tactics. These include requests for payment, use of personal emails or WhatsApp instead of official KPA domains, unrealistic job promises, and poorly written offer letters. Candidates should stop communication immediately if they suspect a scam. They should report the matter to the nearest police station and verify all job information directly through official KPA platforms.
The authority emphasized that it will not be liable for any losses or misrepresentations arising from fraudulent activities. Job seekers are encouraged to rely only on verified channels, such as the official KPA website and social media accounts, for recruitment updates.
In other news, the United Nations is hiring for 44 positions at its Nairobi duty station. The roles include 18 internships for young professionals and 26 consultancy or fixed-term positions for experienced specialists. Vacancies span agencies including UNEP, UN-Habitat, UNON, and the Office of Administration of Justice. Interested candidates must submit applications through the official UN careers portal before deadlines from mid-February to late March 2026.
KPA’s warning serves as a critical reminder for job seekers to be vigilant. Scammers are increasingly sophisticated, but official channels and careful verification remain the best defense against fraud. Always check, confirm, and avoid making any payments to unverified sources.
