Rafik Saba is more than just your typical guy from across the street. He’s a philosopher, a student, a born-again Christian and also quite possibly the best upcoming gospel rap artist you need to watch out for.
It’s rumored that he started music as a fluke. A friend of his who was looking for a partner to form a rap group approached him and asked whether he could rap? And even though he couldn’t rap and never took music seriously at that time. He, nevertheless, accepted the challenge. From there he started learning how to polish his skills as a songwriter and took an interest in music to another level.
“In order to hone my craft, I started reading plenty of books, particularly dictionary, kamusi and kamusi ya methali. I also started downloading and printing lyrics of my favorite hip hop artist and examining them as it were. I used to analyze the way they arrange their words, syllables, metaphors, rhymes and so on. And this really helped me a lot to broaden my horizon musically speaking.” Rafik Saba explains.
Today Rafik Saba has three songs under his belt- letting go, mwanangu and my philosophy, and one video. His latest video titled “my philosophy” can be found on YouTube and on his Facebook page {Rafik Saba} as well.
