Nairobi, August 5, 2024 — President William Ruto has signed the Supplementary Appropriation (No.2) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 39 of 2024) into law at State House, Nairobi. The new legislation aims to enhance funding for crucial sectors including agriculture, education, and healthcare.
In a statement following the signing, President Ruto highlighted the Bill’s significance in bolstering the country’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiative. “The Supplementary Appropriation Bill makes available more resources for agriculture, education, and healthcare,” he noted.
The Bill allocates funds to support medical internships, contract UHC workers, and Community Health Promoters, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving health services nationwide.
Education also receives a significant boost with provisions for the hiring of Junior School interns on permanent terms and the introduction of a new financing model for higher education. “This legislation supports the hiring of Junior School interns on permanent terms and the higher education new financing model,” President Ruto added.
The enactment of the Supplementary Appropriation Bill marks a pivotal step in the government’s efforts to address pressing needs in these vital sectors, ensuring better services and opportunities for Kenyans.
