The 2013 Nairobi Standard Chartered marathon was hosted on 27th of October at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Hundred’s of Kenyan’s turned up to support a worthy cause in running to give give sight to the blind. Not to mention the Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero this Marathon race was meant to be a fulfilling one.
In the women’s race it was a tight race between Winfridah Kwamboka and Florence Chepsoi and ultimately Kwamboka came on top.
The humble Kwamboka even after winning a prize money of 1.5 Million shillings she spoke modestly and pledged to donate some of her prize money to homes for the blind.
She said :
“I thank God my prayer prevailed and that is why I will donate some money to charity especially homes for the blind,” said Kwamboka. Mung’ara and Kwamboka pocketed Sh1.5m each.
The 31-year-old Kwamboka, broke away from the field at the 20km mark before stamping her authority to finish at 2:33:18, leaving Chepsoi in second place on 2:33:56.
