The harrowing incident occurred in the upscale neighborhood of Kileleshwa. The targeted staff member, who previously served with the National Intelligence Service (NIS), had been transferred to Gachagua’s office to assist in the Deputy President’s vigorous campaign against illicit brews. Gachagua detailed the frightening encounter, noting the bravery and quick reflexes of his employee.

“On that fateful evening, as the officer was leaving his home in Kileleshwa, a gunman on a motorbike approached him,” Gachagua recounted. “The assailant aimed for his head, intending to end his life. However, through a stroke of luck and the officer’s quick dash, the bullet missed his head and instead struck his shoulder. This quick thinking undoubtedly saved his life.”

The Deputy President expressed his deep concern over the attack, emphasizing the calculated nature of the assassination attempt. “This was not a random act of violence; it was a targeted attack meant to instill fear and disrupt our efforts,” Gachagua asserted. “We will not be cowed. Our mission to eradicate the illegal alcohol trade and protect our communities will continue undeterred.”

Following the attack, the injured staffer was swiftly taken to a Nairobi hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet. He remained in the hospital for a week, receiving extensive medical care. The Deputy President commended the medical team for their prompt and professional response, which ensured the employee’s recovery.

The Deputy President also shared his thoughts on the broader implications of the attack. “This incident highlights the dangers faced by those who stand against illegal activities. It is a stark reminder of the lengths to which those who profit from illicit trade will go to protect their interests,” he said. “But let me be clear: such cowardly acts will not deter us. We will continue our fight with even greater resolve.”

Authorities are now intensifying their investigation into the attempted assassination. The police have urged members of the public to come forward with any information that might assist in apprehending the assailant. The Deputy President’s office has also bolstered security measures for staff members to prevent any future incidents.

In a message directed at those behind the attack, Gachagua declared, “To those who believe they can intimidate us with violence, know that your actions only strengthen our determination. We will not falter. Justice will prevail, and we will root out the scourge of illicit brews from our society.”

The revelation of the assassination attempt has sparked a wave of reactions across the nation, with many expressing their support for the Deputy President and his staff. Public figures and citizens alike have condemned the attack, calling for a united front against the threats posed by illegal activities.

As the investigation continues, the Deputy President remains steadfast in his commitment to his duties. “Our resolve is unshaken. We will continue to serve the people and protect our communities from harm,” Gachagua concluded. “Together, we will overcome these challenges and build a safer, more prosperous future for all.”
